DAY OF THE STRANGER (Alpha Video DVD)

£10.00

Caine Farrowood is a bounty hunter in the days of the Old West. After a job goes wrong, Caine is left for dead. Just as he is about to embrace death he suddenly awakens back in the arms of his pregnant wife, Christina. Baffled by how he got home, Caine wants answers, but before long he is enlisted in the retrieval of another bounty. The reward is huge, but it threatens not just his life, but his sanity as well. His quarry is a mysterious stranger who seems to be a…fallen angel…? Caine becomes trapped between the caverns of his own madness and a full-blown descent into hell in this tribute to the acid-westerns of the '60s and '70s.

Adapted freely from the Mark Twain's story "The Mysterious Stranger" (1916) with touches of Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" (1890), Day of the Stranger was lovingly made by rebels without a crew, guerrilla-style, in the middle of the United Kingdom over a period of six grueling years. Day of the Stranger is a kaleidoscope of blood, guns, satanic nymphs, and psychedelic frenzy, boasting an epic original score. It earned praise from inspiration Alejandro Jodorowsky (El Topo, The Holy Mountain) and features an unhinged turn by cult actor Gary Shail (Quadrophenia, Shock Treatment). Saddle up for the ultraviolent Weird West of Day of the Stranger…

''The kind of indie film we don't see enough of...resembles El Topo shot for pocket change. This is a very good thing.'' - JIM MORAZZINI; VOICES FROM THE BALCONY

''Twists your mind up into a tight ball...Day of the Stranger is for genuine lovers of the underground and of the wild odd westerns that floated around in the tumble weed backwoods of the '70s...What more could you ask for?'' - JAMIE DUNN; SEVERED-CINEMA.COM

''A film ripe for developing a cult following'' - STU WILLIS; SEXGOREMUTANTS.CO.UK

''A haunting, surreal vision...The visuals and aural accompaniment are something to behold...Part rugged cowboy gore-'em-up and part supernatural journey, this film is a treat.'' - JOSEPH PERRY; HORRORFUEL.COM

'''I like mucho...tienes talento'' - ALEJANDRO JODOROWSKY

"Low budget feature filmmaking is a Herculean task and Rutter should be commended for going against the grain of the majority of low-budget British genre film making. Even as a western it stands out in its field, in thrall to Alejandro Jodorowsky's El Topo more than any standard western." - WEARECULT.ROCKS
